I had a hard time figuring out what I was going to write my blog about. I really did. But, I finally got a good idea. I decided that every week I am going to write a list of my top ten favorite things in one category and my top ten least favorite things in the same category. Good idea, right? I got the idea from one of my favorite books called "The Princess Diaries" by Meg Cabot. The main character and her friend are always writing lists and I always looked forward to the next one. They were entertaining and helpful at the same time. There's a lot to say when you love something and a lot to say when you hate something. Powerful emotions are often the easiest things to write about.
Anyway, for this first entry I decided to do something completely different. I am going to write about the sky. I have no idea what it is, but for some reason, the sky fascinates me. It moves so fast, and changes into so many different colors. The clouds are just amazing. They can be small and puffy, or huge and swirly, stretching across the whole blue dome above us. The sunset is especially entrancing. No matter what colors streak the clouds--pink, purple, orange, red, yellow--the sun slipping beneath the ground is the high point of my day. The yellow begins to creep up from the bottom of the sky, then melts slowly into the blue, purple sneaking in between. The streaky clouds slowly turn cotton candy-pink, and the puffy ones glow gold in the jewel-blue sky. The sky gradually gets lighter, and lighter, as the sun spreads its golden rays across the heavens. How gorgeous. I like to admire it by walking around my neighborhood at around seven o'clock. The weather has been getting colder, though, so I probably won't doing that for much longer.
There was a museum that I went to once. I think it was the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) in Boston. One of the exibits was called "Roof Camera." All it was was a camera that somebody had set up on the roof of the museum that stayed there all 24 hours of the day. The footage was shown on a screen inside the museum so you could look at whatever the sky was doing that day. Apparently it was feeling lousy the day we were there because it was pouring rain. Plink, plink, plink, right onto the lense of the camera. Which probably wasn't very good for whover was running the exibit because they would probably need to buy a new lense, but it was kind of cool for us. I would like to see that exibit on a clear day, though. Just to see what it's like to look straight up into that endless blue. When you do try to look straight into the sky, usually you get blinded from the sun. I always do, anyway, and it doesn't look so hot through sun glasses. Anyways, I would like to see the footage from a clear day to look into the sky, and see if that deep blue stuff ever stops. It always seemed to me that it was like water, endless, deep, and beautiful. Always looking like you could fall in at any second. Like it went on forever.
I suppose it's just the sky. Just a reflection of the oceans that span across our grand planet. But it seems like so much more than just the atmosphere portecting us from the toxic gasses beyond Earth. All I know, is that there's nothing else like it. On Earth, anyway.

Molly, I really liked all your discriptions about the sky. Your details made it able for me to imagine the sunset/ sky in my head. Your commentary about how much you like it helped me to picure it. I also liked how you focus on one thing every week and find topics that you really enjoy, and how you got it from the Princess Diaries. That is really creative.
ReplyDeleteFor constructive criticism I would have to say that you should focus on putting some ideas into different paragraphs, instead of having one big one. To improve it, in future blogs you should maybe use other people's thoughts or opinions that shape yours.
It was really good though, I enjoyed reading it

+1. this is the most original and fascinating essay ive ever written. ill have to stare at the sky whhen i go home toady! :D +2. i LOVE the desciption of the sunset: creeping yellow, melting blue, sneaking purple...
ReplyDelete1. i think that the first paragrph describing what you were planning to write and the sky part shoud have been seperated - it kninda takes away from the sky part. 2. im curious to know... when was the first time you looked at the sky and really appreciated it?
Your description of the sky was so amazing and vivid!! I really got a clear visual image of it, and you're right, the sky is fascinating. I also like how you described your experiences that led to your interest in the sky. I understand why you do.
ReplyDeleteAnd for the criticism... I gotta say, you have a lot of small sentences that could be formed together into one. Also, make sure you put more separate the piece into more paragraphs.
Overall, I really like this topic. It's abstract in a way, but it's really artistic, and I enjoyed it. =)
Remember that a complete sentence must have a subject, verb, and be a complete thought. You've got quite a few sentence fragments here.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand your frustration with not getting the best experience from the roof camera. I once went to the World Trade Center in NYC to go to the observation deck, only to be told that there was no visibility, so I might as well save the money. I walked out of the lobby bummed out over the missed opportunity, and I never got another chance to go back.
It consists of classes, lectures, reading books and writing texts, taking exams and making labs. click here
